We were today years old when we learned the characters in the iconic stoner movies never really smoked cannabis or got high.
For one, the poster boy for legalized weed Seth Rogen was most probably smoking “fake weed” while filming “Pineapple Express”. What about Cheech & Chong’s “Up In Smoke”? Same same.
According to cinematographer and prop master Jeff Butcher, herbal cigarettes have been the go-to prop for decades in Hollywood. With no traces of nicotine, synthetic buds are smoked on-screen by actors who prefer keeping things professional. And yes, even Rogen is sober while on set.
However, there was one incident where Snoop Dogg switched prop weed for the real thing while filming “The Beach Bum” with a blissfully unaware Matthew McConaughey.
The blunt-smoking, weed-toting rapper kept things real when the two shared a scene with McConaughey’s character on a mission to get his hands on “magic weed”. Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, McConaughey said while high for the next nine hours, none of them spoke a word of English.
Matthew McConaughey isn’t the only celebrity to share an anecdotal story about their brush with cannabis. Below, we’ll look at the funniest stoner celebrity stories.
Martha Stewart
“Gin and Juice” star Snoop has gained quite the reputation for being a solidified stoner who employs a blunt roller.
Snoop also has a penchant for outsmoking his Hollywood pals. Martha Stewart and the Doggfather first collaborated on “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.” The unusual pairing made the cooking show an instant hit, leading to more collaborations.
Best Bud Bags is the most recent project taken on by the friends. During an interview with Forbes, she admitted that she enjoyed some “baking” with Snoop. The rapper also referred to Stewart as the “secondhand queen” after she admitted to feeling “fabulous” being around his secondhand smoke.
“It does not disturb my concentration,” said the 83-year-old entrepreneur who explained weed makes everything better.
The Art of Rolling the Perfect Joint
Rolling the perfect joint is an art form. Leafmagazines.com calls practitioners “technical joint-rolling samurais” who take their time to focus on cleanliness and consistency.
Some have even turned their talents into a profession. We could go into the technical aspects but why bother when you could buy pre-rolled packs from your friendly neighborhood store?
A few online stores have taken it upon themselves to produce expertly rolled, consistent quality infused joints with premium flower, hash, and liquid diamonds. For example, you can explore here a premium smoking experience with Sluggers’ infused Juiced Pack joints.
Flavor profile is everything when it comes to marijuana. Pre-rolled joints come in a variety of aromas, adding spice or sweetness to enhance the cannabis experience.
The convenient and effective way to consume cannabis trumps taking out your gear and rolling wherever you are. Sometimes, you just want to pop one out and spark it up.
Pre-rolled cannabis products blend premium flowers and a coating for a consistent burn and extra power. It’s ideal for beginners and seasoned users who only want solo relaxation.
Now, back to our scheduled programming!
Drake
Before becoming a big-time rapper, Drake acted in a very well-known Canadian TV series. “Degrassi” ran for 13 seasons and the “Hotline Bling” superstar played Jimmy Brooks for eight seasons until he quit to pursue a music career.
While on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, he revealed he was high during his audition for “Degrassi.” Rehashing the incident, Drake said it was his first audition, the same day he got accepted by the “cool Jewish kids” at his school.
During his first introduction to cannabis, Drake said he started getting paranoid and thought he ruined everything. “I was splashing water on my face constantly, it was like a Clearasil commercial.”
That’s not the end of it. He shared an audio post on Instagram in 2023, saying that he sometimes thinks something bad happened that day. Maybe he’s still high or in a coma.
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt and his “Fight Club” co-star Edward Norton decided to smoke a joint before the Venice Film Festival premiere of the now-cult classic.
Pitt went into full confession mode on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast and explained that nobody laughed when the first joke came up. The next joke was met with dead silence. People were not getting it and as the movie continued, the funnier it got for him and Norton.
“We’re the a**holes in the back laughing at our own jokes,” he said. Thirty minutes into the movie, the squirming festival organizer left. Instead of embarrassment, the two stars laughed even more. High as kites; they were the only ones chuckling.
Jennifer Lawrence
The “Hunger Games” alumni shared her experience smoking weed with unidentified rappers while on “The Howard Stern Show”.
A guest at Ellen DeGeneres’ 60th birthday party, Jennifer Lawrence said her ride wasn’t ready to leave yet, so she smoked a joint with some rappers.
After getting high, she felt like she was in a different universe and had an intense encounter with another partygoer while heading for the portable toilet. Things got a bit too real when security got hold of her.
Lawrence didn’t realize she grabbed the woman by her shoulders, shaking and screaming: “You have to poop! You have to poop!” At least the story ended on a happy note. The Hollywood star said she got McDonald’s on her way home.
What Do You Mean It’s Not Self-Care?
Since cannabis has been legalized in many parts of the U.S., more celebrities are coming out and admitting it’s become part of their self-care routine.
Rihanna is one star who has been very outspoken about her love for the chronic. She told Vogue that during her first pregnancy, she was bracing herself because she didn’t have the usual coping mechanisms and explained she couldn’t just go and smoke a joint whenever she wanted to.
When Andy Cohen got into a rumor about Anne Hathaway being caught smoking a “massive blunt” back in 2015, the actress was coy. He asked how big a stoner she was, and said she was a parent and didn’t want to get arrested.
Celebrities like us need a vice to unwind and destress. Smoking cannabis seems to be their juice of choice. And like many smokers, they too do silly things when high which makes it even more entertaining.
